SHORT COURSE ON CONDOS

Course Profile

Due to land scarcity and high land values, the development of condominiums have become a trend and more and more condominium properties are now being developed in urban areas.

Although more and more condominium properties are developed the issues related to condominium properties are not understood by many. The Institute of Town Planners, therefore, decided to conduct a short course on “CONDOS” in order to increase the awareness and educate the players involved in condominium property developments to address these issues.

In order to develop a successful and sustainable condominium it is important to be conscious of the planning context, statutory requirements, design considerations such as architectural design, structural stability & services coordination, the availability of development infrastructure in the area, sociocultural issues related to life- styles of condominium dwellers and their neighbours , project feasibility and marketing, project implementation, safety considerations, completion & handing over, management, maintains of the condominium properties etc,…

There are many issues concerning condominium development such as. Who owns what? What happens if the structure fails? Will the cost of management and maintenance escalate with the aging of the building? etc., ... These concerns are constantly being thrown at developers by prospective buyers. How to respond to these concerns?
The course will not only cover all relevant issues but will include a site visit to an ongoing condominium development, A role playing exercise for the participants will be organized to gain insight into handling of a condominium development in a real-time situation as part of the programme.
